    About Pocketalk

    Pocketalk

Pocketalk is a handheld two-way voice translation device from POCKETALK Corporation, a subsidiary of Japan's Sourcenext, which began selling it in Japan in May 2018. Users press a button and speak, and the device translates voice and camera images in 92+ languages over built-in mobile data or Wi-Fi. The Pocketalk S2 costs US$299.95 and the S2 Plus US$349.95.

    Key Features

    • Two-way voice translation: Translates conversations in 92+ languages using several translation engines through Pocketalk's Prism Language Systems.
    • Camera translation: Photographs text and shows the translation over the image on the touchscreen, with optional audio.
    • Built-in data: Includes a five-year LTE data plan with unlimited usage and no subscription fees, plus Wi-Fi, hotspot and SIM support.
    • Fleet management: Ventana is an admin panel with MDM to assign devices by team or location and report usage and languages in real time.
    • Sentio and offline model: Sentio provides browser-based live translation for meetings in 77+ languages; Pocketalk Z works fully offline and keeps no data after each session.

    Use Cases

    • Schools: Helping educators talk with multilingual students and parents; the company says it is used in over 500 school districts.
    • Healthcare: Two-way conversations with patients who speak another language.
    • Government and public safety: Front-desk and field conversations, for example at a state DMV.
