Developer Relations Engineer
VAPI

Job Description
Vision
We’re creating the shift to voice as humanity’s default interface. Why voice? Because it captures nuance, emotion, and the full spectrum of human interaction in ways text alone can’t. Voice makes technology human again.
Mission
We’re building the voice infrastructure platform for the next decade. Our market edge is extensible, reliable real-time voice tech built for the full complexity of conversational AI.
In 18 months, 150,000+ developers have signed up — and we’re adding 1,000 more every day.
The Role
We’re looking for a Developer Relations Engineer to join our DevRel team. This is an opportunity for a strong builder with founder energy who also thrives in public. You’ll build alongside our community, speak at events, make content that matters, and shape how developers think about voice tech.
The ideal candidate is a cracked engineer who can communicate clearly and persuasively, understands early-stage developer needs, and can represent Vapi both on stage and in code.
This is not a marketing role — it’s a hybrid of engineering, storytelling, and developer advocacy.
Responsibilities
Build & Teach: Create compelling technical demos, code examples, and open-source projects that showcase what’s possible with Vapi.
Advocate: Represent Vapi at conferences, online events, hackathons, and across platforms like X, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Discord.
Create: Write tutorials, shoot demo videos, and collaborate with creators to help developers onboard and succeed.
Engage: Build authentic relationships with developers — from indie hackers to enterprise teams — and bring their voices to production.
Partner: Support technical teams building on Vapi, offering guidance and ideas that lead to successful launches.
Feedback Loop: Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Marketing to ensure our roadmap aligns with what developers really want.
You Might Be a Fit If You…
Have 3+ years of experience as a software engineer or DevRel at a dev tools/API/platform company
Have shipped production software and can speak confidently about code and architecture
Are a strong communicator — written, visual, and verbal — and enjoy being “on camera” or “on stage”
Have built a personal audience or led dev communities (or want to)
Have founder experience or the agency of one: autonomous, resourceful, strategic
Can adapt between startups and enterprises; know how to speak to both
Are excited by the idea of owning ambitious public work and helping shape a new category
Bonus Points
Prior work with voice, AI, or real-time media
Experience with developer education or content
Comfortable using or contributing to open-source projects
